Old Furniture
A second-hand furniture dealer at the corner of Church Lane, Holborn, with pretty much his whole stock spread out on the street. This photo is a little bit of lost London, because the lane was torn down not long after, and the people living there were pushed out to other parts of the city. The dealers were clever with it. They could make one good chair out of two broken ones, and poor families selling their furniture would have it collected after dark so the neighbours wouldn't know. Taken by John Thomson in 1877.
