Lotus
£26.99Price
A single lotus in full bloom, with a bud still waiting its turn. It comes from a set of flower pictures made in the 1890s by Ogawa Kazumasa, one of the great pioneers of Japanese photography. Ogawa learned photography and collotype printing in Boston in the 1880s, then went home and opened Japan's first collotype printing business in 1889. Collotype let him print photos in ink with amazing detail, and each one was then coloured by hand. The lotus grows up through muddy water and opens clean, which is why it means so much in Buddhism. Restored and printed on thick, museum-grade matte paper.
